Delta College rolls out "MySJDCCard" for Spring 2012

The days of ?waiting for the check in the mail? are over - at least at Delta College. ?We?re not doing paper checks anymore,? says Denise Donn, Delta?s Director of Financial Aid & Veterans Services.

San Joaquin Delta College is in the final stages of ushering in a new, efficient process for Delta?s financial aid disbursements, as the college rolls out the ?MySJDCCard?? for spring 2012. This new debit card service will allow Delta students more choice in how they ?to receive financial aid, including a new option to pay tuition and bills online, along with the usual consumer transactions.

Delta College is partnering with Higher One, Inc., to bring this ?modern? method of financial aid disbursement to its students. Founded in 2000, Higher One works closely with colleges and universities to ensure students receive financial aid refunds quickly. The MySJDCCard is a Debit MasterCard? that functions like other debit cards attached to a checking account, with same day deposits to the OneAccount, an FDIC insured, no monthly fee, no minimum balance checking account administered by Higher One. The student always has the option of having the refund electronically disbursed to the checking account of their choice.

?We started mailing over 17-thousand cards to our financial aid recipients on December 16, 2011? adds Donn. ?We?re excited about this opportunity to provide Delta?s students with faster service and increased choices for receiving their financial aid disbursements. In addition, students will have the added convenience of debit card payment services.?

In order to receive the MySJDCard, Delta?s financial aid students were required to verify or update their mailing addresses during the Fall 2011 Semester. Toward that end, the college initiated a? ?Check Yourself? campaign. Delta students may still confirm their mailing addresses by visiting the Admissions & Records service desk at Delta?s DeRicco Building, or, by logging onto:

The next phase in the MySJDCard transition is the ?Unlock the Possibilities? campaign, where financial aid students will be asked to choose their checking account option ? electronic ACH transfer to the domestic bank of their choice, or open an optional OneAccount checking account. Students will simply need to log in to their MySJDCCard account to select their preference at: mysjdccard.com.

Denise Donn emphasizes, ?If students don?t select their preferences before the first disbursements are made on January 18, the process becomes a bit more complicated.?

In addition to the postal/paper cost savings the MySJDCCard allows, ?Delta?s ?Superintendent/ President, Dr. Jeff Marsee, sees added student benefits. ?Higher One has designed the service with web site tools that promote responsible money-management habits. These practices encourage financial accountability among our students. In this tough economy, there?s no better lesson learned.? Dr. Marsee finishes, ?It?s a sign of the times. Well over one-third of California?s 112 ?community colleges have transitioned to a similar financial aid disbursement programs.?
