Tony Wong will be joined by panel discussion participants Ebrahim Al Haddad, ITU; David Shackleton, Ezetop; Faris Awartani, FTTH Council MENA, Jordan; Roy Zakka, Ubanquity; and Terry Howard, Qtel. The discussion will be moderated by William Fagan of ictQATAR, and opened by main speaker Paul Budde, CEO of BuddeCom.
Tony Wong, Huawei Technologies, commented, "Qatar provides an ideal environment in terms of connectivity and infrastructure. We have heard many inspirational stories of businesses in the region that have used broadband as a launch-pad to take them to the next stage of their development, and we all have first-hand knowledge of how broadband improves quality of life by putting information and entertainment at your fingertips. QITCOM plays a wonderful role in allowing entrepreneurs to network and share these inspirational stories, as well as giving them practical tips and resources to tap that can help drive their business growth."
Enterprises deciding where to locate look for the best network infrastructure, and as well as reliable broadband networks this can mean access to operator-managed services such as cloud computing, data centers and video communications. Broadband provides a platform for telecommunications operators to offer a breadth of new services and applications to customers.
Governments are putting broadband at the heart of national infrastructure by creating 'Smart Cities', where Internet and network infrastructures are harnessed to provide e-services and high-speed connectivity to business and citizens. With Huawei's technologies used in the creation of smart cities worldwide, the ICT provider expects discussions at QITCOM to focus heavily on the role of broadband in powering smart city infrastructure.
A key milestone for Huawei in Qatar was the provision of a fibre-to-the-home network for Qtel, which provides high speed Internet connectivity to residential and commercial buildings, villas and apartments across the country through the use of optical line terminals. This is just one part of Huawei's overall success in the Middle East region, with just one recent example being the provision of its transmission network solution for du, enabling access to mobile services on the Dubai Metro Green Line for passengers and small retail businesses in the metro stations.
Xiao Ning, General Manager, Huawei Technologies, Qatar, added, "Huawei has developed a strong presence in Qatar over the past eight years, and is committed through its partnership with ictQatar to helping start-ups and SMEs through the exchange of knowledge. Technologies such as cloud computing can spur economic growth by allowing smaller businesses to access IT resources at a fraction of the cost, but lack of understanding of what cloud is can mean smaller businesses believe it to be out of their reach. QITCOM will provide a lively forum for correcting misconceptions such as these, showing how investment in ICT infrastructure can help foster a nurturing and entrepreneurial environment."
While consolidating its leading position within the telecom market, Huawei is also growing rapidly in the enterprise market; specifically in the government, oil and gas, transportation, banking and finance, power sectors and more.
Visitors to Huawei's Stand I18 at QITCOM will gain an overview of the company's entire customer offering, starting with the complete enterprise product portfolio showcased in seven different areas dedicated to IP, IT, UCC, Wireless and Verticals. Visitors can also see the two-way immersive communications experience of Telepresence for themselves in a dedicated Telepresence room. A dedicated space on stand will give visitors the opportunity to hold and interact with Huawei's consumer devices, including smartphones, USBs and dongles.
